The stud was established over 25 years ago and occupies 30 acres of pasture and woodland on the Hampshire/West Sussex border. The stud is owned by Margaret & Geoff Shawcross, who is a veterinary surgeon but retired from general practice.
The Gazaro name is derived from the first two letters of the three stallions that formed the basis of the stud, namely GAstador XII, ZAfiro and ROmero XXV. We lost both Gastador and Zafiro a few years ago when both were in their twenties and Romero, just after his 24th Birthday in 2019. Our own advancing years has not dampened our enthusiasm for breeding high quality horses and we have acquired several chestnut mares and a cremello stallion in order to breed palomino PREs; our first crop of palomino foals was born the summer of 2018.
Geoff also gives dressage lessons to riders on their own horse either here or their own school.
